Fly line floating RIVERSPEED LL TOURNAMENT hotfly 0,55 mm

Designed in Italy specifically for fly fishing competitions, the RIVERSPEED LL TOURNAMENT floating fly line is ideal for effective european nymph fishing. Its profile is linear (FIG.1) and with only 0.55 mm thickness it is very light.

The advantage of using such thin and light fly line in this kind of fishing is that the very light weight of the line will not drag the nymphs towards you but will make them stay where you decided to cast them, making them reach the river bottom exactly in the chosen spot (FIG. 2).  Using a classic DT line for european nymph fishing is counterproductive, because being bigger and therefore heavier it will tend to fall downwards just outside the rod tip. Doing so will create a belly that will lift the nymphs off the bottom and bring them towards you, effectively removing them from where they should be ( FIG. 3).

Unlike classic nymph fishing, in european nymph fishing it is essential to always have the right line and leader tension. In this way you will be able to feel through the rod handle everything that is happening underwater. You will know immediately when the nymphs reach the bottom and above all you will feel immediately when the fish eats the bait, being able to set the hook in time.

The two ends of the RIVERSPEED LL TOURNAMENT end with 25cm of orange line, then 25cm of black line and finally another 25cm of orange line. This alternating black/orange colour helps you to keep a constant eye on it in all light conditions. In addition, the orange part acts as a strike indicator to help you know when the time is right to set the hook.

There is a small loop on both end sections of the fly line for easy connection with the leader. (FIGURE 5)

The MSC (maximum speed coating) outer coating used on all Hotfly fly lines ensures maximum smoothness between the rod guides, allowing you to be very precise and effective.In addition, the latest generation materials that have been used guarantee excellent performance over the long term, while also protecting the line from the sun's ultraviolet rays.

The HFT technology (hyper floating technology) makes it extremely floatable, even in very turbulent water situations. Although it is a nymph fishing line, with a little dexterity it is possible to make discreet casts to occasionally try to fool some fish that are feeding on the surface.

The RIVERSPEED LL TOURNAMENT fly line is 28 metres long and being mirrored can be used on both sides. This allows you to turn it over should it wear out over time. In order to wear it out evenly, we recommend turning it after each fishing season.

Below is a diagram of a fairly versatile set-up. Obviously there is no such thing as a universal set-up; each angler has his own and modifies it according to the different situations he finds himself in. That said, if you are a beginner you can start with this, but with time and experience you will be able to modify it or even change it to suit your needs. We would also like to remind you that to get the most out of this fishing technique, it is best to use a rod between 10 and 11 feet long.
